Community members working together in a garden

Rooted in Phoenix, Growing Together

Establishing Roots Phoenix started as a backyard experiment and grew into a community of desert gardeners who believe that growing your own food changes everything.

How It Started

Establishing Roots began with a simple mission: help school gardens get off the ground. Over the years it grew into a hub of knowledge and community, rooted in hands-on learning and real experimentation in Morgan's own backyard.

Morgan now shares everything she's learned so others can succeed — knowing exactly what works for growing food in the harsh realities of city and desert life. She also teaches how to build food security, giving you genuine peace of mind.

Classes cover the full journey — building healthy soil, creating a food forest, raising backyard chickens, and stocking your pantry with food you've grown yourself. It's about literally establishing roots of your own, while building the kind of community that creates true resiliency.

Our Mission

"Creating community to make food growing accessible, practical, and joyful for every Phoenix family regardless of yard size, budget, or experience."

Desert-First Thinking

Every technique we teach is tested and proven in Phoenix's climate. No generic gardening advice — only what actually works here.

Community Over Competition

Gardening is better together. We share seeds, knowledge, and harvests freely. Our community is our greatest resource.

Accessible to Everyone

We offer sliding-scale pricing, free community workshops, and Spanish-language sessions. Growing food shouldn't be a privilege.

Water-Wise Always

In the desert, water is life. Every workshop includes water conservation techniques — because sustainable gardening starts with the resource we have least of.

Meet the Instructors

Real gardeners who grow in Phoenix. Every technique we teach, we've tested in our own yards.
